Solder vs Add A Circuit vs Twist and Tape

I went to Radio Shack today to pick up a soldering kit because I want to perfect all the electrical work I've been doing in my truck so far. However the guy helping me said it is useless to solder wires together and all you have to do is twist and tape them...I know that is BS and Im calling noob on him, but I wanted to see what members on here are doing.

How are you all splicing into other wires? Soldering? Add A Circuit? or just old fashion twist and tape which, to my understanding, is a huge no-no?

Solder if it's important. Get a cold heat gun.

Solder. Twisting (with a spring connector) is only for a house...something that doesn't get bounced around.

Solder, anytime it matters.

Jeebus, smacktalk88, you keep listening to the hoodles behind the counter at Radio Shack and next thing you know you'll be unbolting your entire exhaust from the headers on back.

haha, c'mon, I havent smacktalked in at least a month...ever since that incident with billbrasky and such, but that guy seriously pissed me off...and called me an assclown haha.

Funny thing about that radio shack guru is he said his 'dodge stealth' died on him, probably because he twist-and-taped every single electrical component on it.

Solder on anything important or where vibrations/movements are encountered. In the Performing Arts Center I work at I spent most of last summer rewiring half of the sound system...most of the problems I had to fix had to do with shoddy soldering or stressed out cables. Practice proper soldering technique before you go doing it...20 minutes to an hour of practice can save HOURS of headache trying to figure it out on the fly while under the dash. Not to mention numerous burns and burn marks from too much hot solder dropping on your arm or carpet.

Solder works very well, but insulated crimp connectors are just as good when crimped properly and you don't have to worry about solder dripping on you or your rug. High current loads can get hot enough to soften and even melt solder. Twist and tape.....I'm not even gonna go there. Wirenuts, don't use them either. Solder flux is acidic and must be removed after soldering. It will eventually eat the conductor.
