Its time toyota woke up.If they dont I may be driving a mahindra diesel truck.Mid size with 38mpg hiway. Its coming here in 2009.Its made in India.I have owned one of their tractors for years.Zero problems!
Your talking about this truck right? I like my taco better. Sorry bro.
Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. will shake up the U.S. truck market next year when it introduces a new midsize pickup called the Appalachian sporting a 2.2L four-cylinder diesel engine producing around 150 horsepower and 300 pound feet of torque.
There site says it will have a 4 year 60k bumper to bumper. It will be priced in the mid 20's. It looks like a Ford Ranger to me. My grandpa give me enough crap about buying a Jap truck(should of bought American!)...he would probably die if I bought an Indian truck lol .
Its hard to beat a 2,600lb payload. My plastic bed wont do that.I bought it for a truck not a car.At 38 mpg hiway compared to the 22 I get now.Its not much to think about.I need something that I can use.I didnt buy the taco cause it looks good I needed a decent truck. If I based it on looks I would have bought a car. When gas hits 6 bucks for reg you might think a little different dude.I already have!

Its not like you or I had a choice between the two when we bought our tacos. I like the taco better looks wise. I agree with you that thing are going to get real interesting once gas prices really peak. Your gonna see cars and truck getting smaller and smaller. I bought the taco for work, play, and to haul my family around in so that smaller little truck wont work for me. So far I have been getting 19mpg around town with only 1500 miles on the truck. Its not great but more that I expected and much better than my old Dodge! BTW I wasn't flaming you if you took it that way...I was just giving my opinion.
Yeah, I don't think I'll be buying one anytime soon. Not that I'll be buying anything anytime soon...
Maybe I'll get one of those trucks after I buy that '69 Camaro SS in perfect condition for less than five grand. Oh, wait, I'll be looking for a '72 Vette after that...

I might not buy that particular truck...but I'm with the OP...Toyota makes a diesel in other markets...it should be offered in thier biggest market...With gas prices on the rise...when it hit's $5 that's a $100 fillup!
....Bring on a 30-35MPG truck! There is NO reason we shouldn't get this engine in our Tacoma's...it has awesome torque! Check this out......with the 2.2 in Tacoma, it would be perfect. Remember this was written in 2005......
Fuel consumption figures are not yet available. However, the current production Avensis using a 2.0-liter diesel with D-CAT consumes 5.8 liters per 100 km (combined), or 40.5 mpg (US), with CO2 emissions of 155 g/km
Oh yeah...before anyone starts...you're right I didn't buy my truck for gas mileage...but I didn't think gas would damn near double in 2 1/2 years either.
