Hey guys, i have an opportunity to trade my 06 QC 4x4 TRD for an 07 2500HD Dodge Ram QC 4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins Turbo Diesel with Auto trans. Mileage is the same on both. Man i love my Taco but the power of the Cummins is awesome and i do tow a small trailer and haul bikes. My Taco does this no problem (tow package) but the fuel mileage is horrible. I'm torn between keeping the Taco or taking my chance and get the dodge. what do you guys think? I'm guessing the Taco would be favored but i'm curious what you guys think! thanks.

go with the cummins. im thinking of doing the same thing as well. i live 5 miles from the mexico border, deisel is less than $2.50 a gal down there. plus, for towing, the cummins motor is very efficient and will tow just about anything without breaking a sweat.
Do what you want... My local dodge dealership is selling the new trucks at 50% of MSRP (a few models). They are great trucks, but expect to be buried as hell when you want to trade it in on your next vehicle.
You are safe in a Tacoma, but not any of the domestics.

I would do it in a heartbeat, those Cummins diesel motors are no joke.

I have owned diesels and gasoline big trucks. If you can use your Tacoma for the things you have (toys-family) and make it work then I would keep your Tacoma. Diesel is about 60 cents more than unleaded in my area.
It's a tight fit for me and my family but I sticking with my Tacoma. Power isn't everything.

thanks for the input so far. I also forgot to mention this would be a straight across trade. it wouldn't cost me anything. Both trucks are in identical condition. Excellent, even the same color! lol

Regular gas is like 3.95 here, diesel is almost a dollar more I think. I didn't do the math, but I don't know if you'd be at any sort of advantage with the better MPG of the diesel. Not to mention though the Cummins is an excellent engine, the rest of the truck is typical Dodge, umimpressive interior and everything else.
I don't know about that. Mine has stayed pretty steady throughout the year according to KBB and Edmunds.
Get what you want. If it's an even swap moneywise, that's your call.
I don't think KBB and Edmunds are keeping up, prices seem to be dropping a lot faster than they reflect. The Tacoma is hopefully doing better than the full sized trucks and large SUVs. If you're in the market for a lifted Tacoma with 33s the time to buy cheap may be getting close.
If I search on Ebay I don't see a lot of tacomas selling or anything getting less than 20mpg, and bidding stops way below expectation.

i wouldnt get a dodge. i'd get a chevy or ford. dodges transmissions go out quite often i've heard. diesel is about a dollar more down here than regular gas. seems to me like u might be losin more money in payin for diesel.

The Cummins motor is absolutely terrific and you can easily get 500K+ miles on it, but it’s attached to a 100K mile truck. I would ask the individual who’s suggesting the trade why he/she is willing to forgo the Dodge. The trucks are different and you're not really comparing apples to apples. Also keep in mind of your actual need for a truck versus wanting a vision.

I'd trade for the Dodge in a second if it was an even trade. I'd put a banks power kit in that thing, along with some 33's and love every gallon of diesel that I burned with 400+ lbs of torque.
