I got a new to me bike.

You guys don't knwo me that much but I'm more in to my bike, meaning street bike R6 FZ1 and what not. With that we my G/F and I are heading to Indy for Moto GP at the the speedway. So we decided to see about taking some bicycles out there. I did not have any that where in working order mostly because they came from a dump, and will cost to much money to repair. So we started looking for a new pedal bike for me. All the good stuff is to expensive new. So I came home and figured what the heck I try E-bay and craigslist and what not, Well I look out. Found a local person only about 30 min a way selling this

It s a 2001 trek 7000 we picked it up for 300 which was about the top of our budget. and the only thing we could fine new at that price was stuff at department stores. I kind of did want a dual spension frame but oh well not a big deal. I will diffently be upgadeing the front brakes to disc brakes this winter. But other then that the bike feels pretty good.

The disc brake up grade will end up costing you about as much as you paid for the bike. You will need a new disc brake compatible hub, rim, and the brakes themselves.
V-brakes work perfectly fine and if you don't plan on any hardcore riding, I'd stick with the v-brakes.

I've been running v-brakes on my full suspension bike and they work great, not to mention much cheaper and lighter than disc.

I'm going to eventually get the bike bed attachemnt thing. Still trying to decide if I need it for my trip or not.

I should be able to the disk brake up gade for about 100 bucks. its not some much the stoping power that I'm looking for is the way the brake feels. I have ridden a couple of bikes with disc and the feel is much much smoother then the v brakes. In my main hobby Street bike R6, FZ1 track days. Being smooth is staying alive. Haveing precise controll over what i'm doing. I feel the the v brakes just can't provide the accuracy that I'm looking for, I doubht I will do anything hard core but I may hit some stuff that more then just a trail in a park we will see. Another hobby to suck my money away.

Congrats on the bike. Good call no rear suspension, less breakage, maintenance, weight, and bobbing.

Agree w/ Zmtnbik, if you were top of budget at $300, forget discs. Been riding and racing mtb's for 18 yrs. I have both full suspension/discs and a hardtail/ vbrake. So many techincal descents around here, no issue with the Vbrake, other than a little more work on steeps in the mud/wet, but not worth upgrading. Its flat where you, are so doubt you'd see any benefit. Enjoy, and don't forget the front brake is opposite from your moto!
