I have a belltronics vector 955 and it works great, im sure it is not as good as the valentine 1 but for 200 dollars it is as good as you can get. It has good range for Ka and K (i turn x off) and as previously stated there isn't much you can do about laser.

I have an escort 8500x50 that I like. I've used the valentine one, and prefer it to the 8500, but didn't want to spend the money. The K40 is also supposed to be good, and they will pay your first speeding ticket.
Honestly, I try not to speed anyway, and the detector is more of a just in case I'm not paying attention.
Best information is to not buy crap. It's a waste of money. Nothing will piss you off more than getting a speeding ticket because the $100 radar detector didn't work for you.

I agree with you there, I use mine more because it just makes me less venerable, if you know what I mean. I usually don't go more than 5 over but around here that is enough for a cop to write you a ticket

All good points. But experience tells me that there IS a difference between a $100. and $400. radar detector. I don't have one now, but the thought has crossed my mind lately.
