hey guys ive owned a taco for a few years now, i had a 2000 tacoma and it got recalled then i bought an 05' regular cab which i love. I put it up for sale because i am looking for a quad cab and a truck with more power. The 2.7l isnt doing it for me and i cannot stand trying to fit two people in that front bucket seat the truck isnt ethical for me at all. Plus my hockey gear gets rained on. Dont get me wrong i love the truck.
Some guy offered me a 2006 dodge ram quad cab 1500 slt 4x4 hemi for my truck and i am going to look at it tonight. It has 60 000 kms on it mine has 65000 he wants to do a straight trade. It is fully loaded and black, my truck is basic it is what i wanted, more power and a quad cab. Before my tacoma i owned a dodge dakota, it was a decent truck, loved gas, but it worked well. What do you guys think, put aside your biased thoughts for toyotas because i told myself id never own anything but, anyone know anything about these trucks? Any comments or suggestions? Should i wait it out more?
Thanks

I worked at a dodge dealer for a period of 9 months. I did oil changes, and I never saw a truck come in with over 50 K for just an oil change. Something was always broken. If youre going to get a new truck, thats your perogative. But most of us see a solution here, get a double cab v6 tacoma.

I had an 06' Dodge Mega Cab 4x4 w/Hemi and aside from the thing being a gas station magnet I loved the truck, that thing was like a truck limo.I say if it is mechanically sound and what you want, and if you don't mind probably double what you spend now for gas,go for it!I also had a Quad cab and once my kids got to be teenagers, they were cramped in the back on trips.

This is probably the main reason why the guy wants to trade for the Taco. He can't afford the gas the hemi drinks. May not be a problem now with gas prices low again but how long will that last?

Not too long...OPEC meets at the end of november...and we all know what that means.

if you do go for it... at least pay the money to have a shop you trust REALLY go over the entire truck- you know the tacoma is gonna last, make sure that dodge will...
as others mentioned (and reason i've never owned one nor ever will), some of these "late model" dodges seem to have a tendency to fall apart fast. Everyone i've known who's had one has had issues. Just (second hand) personal experience for my decision.
well originally i wanted a 4 door taco but i can get this one for a straight trade and with the taco id need to spend probably another 5 g's ;x i dunno maybe ill wait. Its not like the value of my truck is decreasing significantly because that i know it isnt

I'd do it. I owned a 2005 Ram Hemi QC 1500 and loved it, I sold it for my DC tacoma now and i'm in love with the tacoma 10x more.... I hope that helped....

That Ram will hold its value for a while but in 10 years from now your tacoma will be more wanted and worth more. For the RIGHT NOW i'd trade because its a even trade. But, for the long term sticking with a Toyota is the better route.
How bad do you really need a truck?? If you dont go 4wheeling every weekend, get a crossover, theyre fuel efficient and fast depending on what you get.
My 1st hand experience with Dodge is limited but second hand I have heard they are terrible guzzlers, its not a true HEMI it just displaces the same amount the old ones did (That came from a friend of mine who was a mechanic). Plus the interiors aren't as comfortable as Toyota or GM in my opinion.
If all you're worried about is your hockey gear, get something lighter so you dont have to sacrifice fuel economy for performance. You know whats going to happen with gas....
dodge's have no value, especially if gas prices climb again. heck, you could probably go purchase a brand new ram for a heck of a deal right now since the big 3 aren't selling rigs right now. I'd go for new over a straight up trade. but thats just me.
Nothing beats the reliablility of a toyota.... If just for the gas mileage of your 2.7. I'll trade you a 05 cbr 1000 for your truck... Im in the seattle area tho...
