Military Tacos

http://www.brian894x4.com/MilitaryTacoma.html

According to this guy's site, the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has apparently been operating the Toyota Tacoma 4x4s out with spec op units in Afghanistan and Iraq as desert runabouts. What's really wild is that they claim the vehicles are straight 'off the shelf' Tacoma Double Cabs purchased at dealerships in the United States and taken to Ft. Cambell for a few minor modifications (i.e IR headlight bulbs, a winch, a roll bar plus pintle mount for a machine gun in the bed, etc.) and then shipped directly to the Middle East for use.

Do we have any military member here who have recently been deployed out in the sandbox with SOCOM forces and can confirm this? The pictures could easily be forged by a group of gun & Taco enthusiasts somewhere, but it would be a real tribute to the truck's toughness and durability in the field if true.

it isn't much of a surprise to me that they use toyota products, what does surprise me is how stock they are. I know over there they use a ton of toyota products (almost every picture involving military over there has a landcrusier or a toyota pickup of some sort)

good stuff, and great product toyota

These pictures maybe be true I have a few friends over there and they verified many times that there are Tacomas are all over the place most likely these pictures are of smaller groups of anti terrosit people that are just trying to help the US troops in there battle over there. I haven't heard if the US military are using them ye. But if they do Toyota better make thoughs pictures public!!

Not meant to be negative, but those pics have been around for a number of years now - maybe three years ago they were posted on TTORA.

they are true. i worked with a Task Force while overseas and we used tacos and range rovers and a few nissans. they're small, fit in tight spaces, and tough as shit. which is what really convinced me to go tacoma

I spent some time with some spec op's guys in a location I won't name in east Africa in the summer of 2002, and they had a fleet of black Toyota Tacoma's that were debadged, had black rims/sidesteps/roll bar w/weapons mounts. The taillights had sandbags duct taped over them to keep it stealth. All of the trucks were brand new, and I'd say there was maybe 2 dozen of them.
