I have a friend in the construction business and he is always having to commute to work in his truck. He is almost always on a muddy sloppy site and is always using his 4wd. All of the guys he works with all have 4x4 trucks, its just part of the job. Well, they hire a new guy and he has to bum rides for a couple of weeks because he doesn't have a 4x4 and doesnt want to risk damage to his car. So he finally goes out and buys himself a brand new Tacoma. It's TRD off-road; all the bells and whistles. He shows up to work the next Monday smiling ear to ear. Ready to show off his new truck. The day is rainy and their job site is as expected extremely muddy and nasty. He gets half way down the road to the main part of the site and begins to lose traction; so he decides to simply shift in 4wd. Well he looks all around the inside of the truck. Gets out and looks for manual hubs and then gets back in when his buddy (my friend) points out to him that he's just bought a PRERUNNER! Ahh! Can you imagine the feeling?
Very stupid mistake indeed, I can't understand why he didn't confirm that at the dealership. It just blew me away. Have you guys heard any other stories like this?
oops! Maybe they have an exchange policy, I know my dealer told me I had three days to bring the truck back if I wasn't happy. I would have had to pay ten cents per mile that was on the truck when I took it back.
I have a Prerunner and mud is about the only thing it doesn't do well in,other than that it'll go just about anywhere. That sucks for him, hopefully his dealer will work with him on a swap.
With some mud tires he shouldn't have that hard of a time getting around with the rear locked. I don't play around much in the mud but my truck seems to do fine in it.
Must have sucked when he realized he just payed roughly 30K for a truck he thought was 4x4 to find out its 2wd though.
My Grandfather was shopping for a Dodge Caravan a few years back. The one that he test drove had the adjustable gas and break peddle that he really liked, and was the color that he wanted, but it was missing one other feature that he was looking for (can't remember what it was now). The sales man told him that they had one other that was "Exactly the same", except it also had the other feature , and it was blue. He emphasized that he wanted both features, the salesman confirmed that it did, so he signed the papers, settling for a color that he wasn't his favorite. He drives it off the lot, and at the first red light goes to adjust the peddles, and sure enough this one didn't have the adjustable peddles. He went immediately back to the dealer, but they refused to admit their mistake. They insisted that because he drove it off the lot they couldn't take it back. He fought with them for weeks before giving up.
