FJ Blind Spots

I know this is the Tacoma forum, but I hear a lot of swooning over the FJ, so it seems appropriate. Nearly got creamed by one on the way home yesterday. Guy just kept sliding right into my lane as if I wasn't even there. After nearly killing myself swerving to dodge him, I realized that he had no idea I was there due to the tiny rear windows and huge rear pillars. If you're in the market, make sure you test out those side mirrors, cause you're gonna need them...

well i am glad he didn't run you totally off the road and cause you to wreck, however, i probably wouldn't blame the FJ 100%. the driver was probably not paying attention (text messaging or something).

i always thought the pillars and small rear window were questionable in the design of the FJ. I know it needs to look somewhat retro but thought they could have improved that. glad you didnt wreck.

no, he can blame the FJ Cruiser on that one. Have you ever been in one? They have the biggest blind spots I have ever seen!!

I test drove one before getting my Tacoma. The blind spots and small rear windows(no visibility for my little boy) were a huge turn off. It looks nice and drives nice though. I feel the Tacoma is a much better vehicle though.

My girl has an FJ, and I agree there are blind spots, but that's no excuse for bad driving. My girl never changed lanes into anybody, and she's asian.

And besides, it's not like that's the first vehicle ever made with blind spots. Here's a few that trump it:

Plus, the FJ is really fun to drive. Handles very nicely, and feels VERY solid.

i read an article about how to set up your side mirrors correctly and it really helped me out with my driving and blind spots.

the article said you aren't supposed to see the side of your own vehicle in the side mirrors (this is the way I used to set them up.) you should have them so that they slightly overlap with the edge of the rear view mirror so you have a continuous panoramic view. it takes some getting used to when you first do it, and it makes it harder to parallel park but it's alot safer for most driving.

i've never sat in an FJ but it would be interesting to compare the different set ups for side mirrors.

X2 My wife and friends always complain about their blind spots and I explain that the side mirriors were designed to eliminate blind spots. Of course the never adjust them right, for some reason they like to be able to see the side of the car in the mirror?

Whatever you do, don't swerve to miss a dumbass and wreck wthout making contact with the igmo. If you don't trade paint, and you wreck its your fault and they are not liable.
Trade paint then wreck. Unless of course you can avoid wrecking in the swerving process. I found all of this out the hardway.
