have any of you seen the recent chevy commercials and how they try to bash on the other truck companies? they're all saying that their V8 gets better gas mileage than a V6...and that their trycks are better than a toyota...which we all know is just dumb...
How about the other commercial that starts out by saying "What type of american are you, buying Hapon cars and trucks." Yes the guys says Hapon cars not Japan Cars. "Be american buy american",
why if the trucks and cars suck ass 90% of the time.
yea thats why their cars 90% of the time are on the side of the road and im driving by them getting 26 mpg...their all proud of getting 20 mpg out of their V8's...thats still pretty shitty mileage...
Clearly we all prefer Toyota trucks over the alternatives because we all drive them, but there is really no need for a thread about how inferior other brands are. Every car company is going to advertise their autos as the best possible product because it would not make any sense to do otherwise. Toyota uses the very same advertising techniques (I am not aware of the commercial xr-eddie mentioned, but I don't watch much TV).
I drove a Ford F-150 before I got my Taco and yes, the Toyota is a better truck, but it's apples to oranges - the Toyota was a lot more expensive, and still has a long way to go before it catches up to the mileage on the Ford. Plus, if I need to haul something large, I'm going for the Ford because it doesn't bottom out with more than 200lbs in the bed.

In all honesty I would prefer to have a Silverado over a Tacoma. I like my Tacoma btu still the only reason I had to get this was because of insurance being a little bit cheaper on the Tacoma
I don't want to hate on Chevy either.... But I cant stand the "buy American" attitude sometimes. My truck came from Nummi. That's a Chevy Toyota venture right?
Buy American? Build American. And no, Mexico doesn't count as USA. (which is a large percentage of the big 3's parts.) So big three: Please build me a vehicle that's on par or even surpasses my taco. PLEASE. I would much rather buy from you than Japan.
chevy...ford...whatever they all need to stop trying to bash toyota and build better trucks...thats a cowardly marketing strategy...i used to drive a chevy and im glad i got rid of that american made crap
I currently own a x-runner, a 2000 f-250 diesel, and a dodge 2500 diesel, I've owned 2003 ss silverado, f150's and alot of others beause of my business/work, and I have to say the ford and the chevy are the most comfortable buy when it comes to everyday driving and mileage + fewer break downs I prefer Toyotas and the resale value doesn't hurt.

dude.. dont come in here and start a thread just to bash on chevy, or any other company for that matter; you already show your disapproval of chevy and support of toyota by driving a toyota. and if you would pay close attention to the commercials, which by all means im SURE u do, they say that the silverado gets the best mileage of any FULL SIZE pickup. OUR TACO'S ARE NOT FULL SIZE. now, given ford just came out with one that gets one whole mpg better than chevy but still. im sure toyota has done its share of bashing other trucks... oh wait kinda like...? yeah how bout the commercials go to show how the tundra tranny is bigger than a chevy tranny? yeah its just stating the fact but they "try to bash the other companies", as you said. ...stupid
and just so you know yeah i drive a taco. i've done my share of wearing the bowtie too, and if i didnt have a taco i'd have a chevy. have you ever had a bad experience with a chevrolet? have you ever had one leave you stranded on the side of the road? if you have, then by all means hate chevy but if you've never had a bad experience with one, then shut de phuck upp

I'm going to start by saying that I love the Chevy trucks. My family's always been a Chevy family, and if I had need for a full sized pickup, I'd be going for a Silverado all the way.
That said, I'm not a big fan of this marketing strategy. There was a time (before my day) when "being American" meant taking pride in building quality products. Sadly, it seems that day is long gone. The Big Three want you to be proud of owning American products, but they're so concerned with cutting costs that quality suffers. Instead of learning from what they did right in the past, and using it to earn that same reputation with a new generation, they're relying on a reputation that is long since dead, forgetting that people look at the quality of CURRENT products, not the ones they made fifty years ago.

I know what the OP is saying (I think), no need to bash him. I hate these commercials too. Especially the one where they make fun of having a heated steering wheel, just because they don't have that feature. like a truck can't have a heated steering wheel or something? I don't like the "you don't need that because you drive a truck" attitude.
I saw a great sticker in the window of a domestic fullsize "Made with tools not chopsticks"
I don't mind the marketing strategy. It's just marketing. Apparently its working - it has you talking about it doesn't it?
The Chevy/GM (and now Ford) fullsize half tons do get better mileage than the Tundra so what's wrong with that part of the add? Toyota traded mileage for power and capability and if anyone is to blame its a product manager at Toyota.
That being said the MPG difference is 1 MPG city and 3 MPG on the highway. Not much to write home about, but given the cost of gas and the relatively low MPG numbers every little bit helps.
Quality wise the GM twins have made great strides with the GMT900 platform. Most of my previous vehicles have been domestic and they were always reliable. In fact when I pay off my '08 Tacoma shortly I'm thinking about picking up a GMC Sierra. I've driven the Tundra Limited with the 5.7 and the Sierra STL with the 6.2 and guess what? I'd rather have the Sierra. They are nice trucks, give them a chance.
I guess the real question is would you have made a post if Toyota had an add saying that they had better mileage then Chevy or Ford or built a better truck?
***Dodge/Chrysler is another story, I've seen three blow motors on the highway just this month - WTF***

Im not here to bash on GM or anything but im tired of people saying the buy american bs when alot of domestic companies build alot of vehicles out side the U.S. I guess some people dont realize that alot of dealers like toyota, honda, Hyundai just to name a few all have plants here in the U.S so wheather your buying gm car or a foreign car your still helping to support some hard working american people because with out these plants their would be a whole lot more unemployed americans.
