Heres my question to you guys, Do you think that our heavily modded and personalized trucks make us a target to get pulled over by police and highway patrol?
this is in no way a rip on police (I am a Criminal justice Major myself) But i ask this question because before i got my truck i had never been pulled over and in the 9 months I have been in the Tacoma ive been pulled over 6 times!!! 3 of which came on a recent all highway road trip through Nebraska, Colorado and Arizona. Only one of these 6 resulted in a ticket (which was legitimate) but i got pulled over outside North Platte Nebraska for doing 78 in a 75, i was pulled over the same day in Alamosa Colorado for" not having taillights" (they may be dark but they are clearly visable and i was traveling in a group of 3 cars for over 50 miles) and then next day around 4 corners to "check my regitstration". Im just wondering if anyone else has problems with this?
Dayum dood, Being an old phart(44) myself I'm not the mad modder that I would be, was, 20 years ago. But, you're doing something that gets their attention....loud exhaust....jumping off at the green light.....sliding into "Home" at the reds.....perhaps a "Friend" gave you a bumper sticker derogatory towards the local constabulary.....

you didn't say the mods, but several states do not like the black out tailights
so take a look at your mods and figure what is legal and might narrow the pull overs?
I've been pulled over 1 time in my truck and it was for speeding, but that's it.
When I was younger, I used to get pulled over all the time in my truck.
I believe the cops do target those that have heavily modded vehicles, whether it be cars, trucks, or bikes, because they know 90% of the owners are < 30 and chances are have some sort of record.
If your truck was bone stock, I bet you wouldn't have been pulled over nearly as much. It's the price you pay for mods. Mod the truck for attention and you will get attention. In 10 years, does it really matter how high you lifted your truck or if you blacked out your tail lights???

Research has been done on this topic. The prime candidates for getting pulled over are red and yellow sports cars because they LOOK fast. Then, depending on the vehicle itself (Truck, SUV, sports car) Black is after red and yellow, with white being the most inconspicous.

True that, my bro has a EVO MR, with about 400 whp. He was visiting from washington, lets just say, it's freaking loud, moded all kinds, and black out tinted. He attracted cops gallor.
it really depends on what mods you have and how you use them. i have quite a few interior and exterior mods, some of which would make me susceptible of being pulled over, just a matter of being smart about it. loud stereo? don't blast in parking lots, in traffic, or other areas where there are plenty of other cars. no front plate and/or illegal front lights? park head in.
things like illegal tint, tinted tails, etc are very noticeable by cops. things like lift, tires, etc probably wouldn't warrant as much attention
I was also going to say more so with cars. Maybe cops see that you have enough money to spend on expensive mods, so you have enough to pay some tickets. Blacking out your tails might not be a problem in your area, but I know there are a lot of states that will give you a hassle over them and especially dark tint. Driving heavily modded cars/trucks through other states can be a pain in the ass.
