Over the weekend I installed a pioneer navigation unit in my 2005 taco. It went really well, the finished product looks great. My question is.... is there a way to get around me having to have my parking break on to watch movies or do I have to suck it up be parked whenever I wanna watch something. The movies are more for my gf so on long trips theres something for her to do.
I had mine installed professionally for that reason...not that i'm about to tell you this, because I definetly DON'T have a video bypass switch wired up because it's VERY illegal in the state of VA. BUT, IF I DID have a switch...it WOULD BE mounted under the dash out of sight, and when I HYPOTHETICALLY put in a DVD I would get a message saying "Set the parking brake" When all I WOULD DO, IF i had this said switch, would be flick it on, and then suddenly, the DVD main menu WOULD pop up, and then if there was an officer of the law next to me, I would simply flick the switch again, returning me to the message telling me to set the brake.
Some independent shops do this, you can always ask, it's not like they're going to arrest you for it.

It would be way too distracting for me to have that going on while driving - even if for the g/f. I don't know if I could deal with having a set of kids doing it in the back seat even. With the cell phone on headset, sometimes eating on the road, drivers representing the inferior sphincter of the colon and possible weather conditions I have more than enough to deal with!!
But I guess one would just find the wire that knows when the parking brake is set and give it another option to determine compliance.
thanks for all your help guys. so the easy way to do this is like Jesse1983 said, to disconnect the wire going to the parking break and to ground the same wire to a metal point right? that simple?
not sure which Pioneer model you have .. but you can go to the Avic411 forums. I did the bypass for my Avic-D3.
Not only you have to ground the parking brake wire, but you also have to move a mute wire.
As if there are not enough distractions while driving...why not add playing movies to the list!
There is a reason they have the parking brake issue, so you wont' do this!
Do you really need to watch a video while driving???? You survived this long without.
