Every sunday I take my tacoma 30 miles away to our playground (tons of trucks and quads) my friends like to harass me about not having an american truck. My response ..Every time I come up here theres a chevy or ford with its hood up. no aircleaner , bunjis for batterie tie downs etc etc. I slam my taco for 2 - 3 hours .(Run the a/c im in florida).Use about a 1/4 tank of gas and lap them chevy and ford boat anchors with my 3000 pound 150 Hp Taco with 6 inches of lift and 35's .And then I drive her the 30 miles home on the highway with almost no tire noise for an 8 hour cleaning on Monday. I wouldn't trade my taco for a chevy or ford if they threw in a $5000 dollar bonus. I have nothing against them , Just some of thier owners,My friends chevy wont start even if looks like there might be some rain lol..P.S My Tacoma was built in California , But I keep that little joke to myself..This link is last sunday before and after..P S. The only thing Ive ever broken was my cooler . It flew out of the bed while I was flying through a mud hole we nicknamed The black hole. Dont get me wrong I do get get stuck at times ,however ,when we hook up to my truck I dont even get back in the cab. we hook to my pintle hitch and I leave truck in neutral while they pull it out with me in the bed..when my friends get stuck with thier 5000 pound trucks there is some crazy tuggin and snatchin. Ive seen bumpers rip off ,tie rods rip off. When you click the link hit the slide show button
My greatest thrill is lining up on a mud hole . winding up the windows, turning off the country music, putting on OZZY ( see you on the other side) Lowering transfer case to 4 low putting tranny in second gear , raising engine to 4500 rpm , realeasing the clutch and watching the mud fly past my windows. it is more stress releaving then any physciatrist could do. Of course getting stuck sometimes does suck when the water is up to your shins in the cab, thats happened once. I freaked out. i couldnt open the door cause the water pressure was holding it closed, I climbed out the window made my way to the front dove under the water to the front hitch and had my friend pull me out , the ironic thing was the water was to the headlights and the truck never stalled, When we opened the door i looked like the u boat captain in Risky business.http://s536.photobucket.com/albums/f...20and%20dirty/

yeah here in Oklahoma they really bust ya for driving a Yota! I have an inlaw who is Chevy Chevy Chevy yada yada yada. Bought my truck before his Chevy truck and car and they are on the second set of truck and car. The only things I have done is cams cai header supercharger. he was drowning in repairs and is doing so again. The only vehicle that is giving me a reliability run is the old 94 z-71 becuase he drives it like once everyother week for hunting and fishing.

I tend to not have a problem with the rigs out on the trails, just the people who drive them. They tend to think lift and tires and they can go anywhere. They forget gears, breaks, extend lines, underbody protection and everything else that is needed to have a successful rig. Case and point, I was with my buddy who has a 96 Cheorkee that he has built and has built right. We ended up buddying up with a Range Rover that was also out riding alone so that incase anyone of us got in trouble we had help. We would stop at rock gardens to watch the buggies crawl and I was shocked at the amount of people that came up with ugly chevys, jeeps, fords, and dodges giving shit to the guy in the Rover for bringing a "luxury" vehicle out there. Its like, are you serious? Underneath the luxury is a purpose built rig for trails. There is no way that you would ever be able to match the off-road capability of a LR in a stock vehicle. I honestly love seeing LR's out on the trial. It always brings a smile.
Again, nothing against other brands, I have my favorite vehicle from just about every brand (except Mistu)
Okay, I'll add to the thread. I've got a stock SR5 (non-TRD) and don't do much off-roading. Just a little when hunting firewood. I use my 4wd almost exclusively in the snow. We've got a local road that connects two highways but it closes at the top in the winter. Everyone uses it for wheelin' in the winter, snowmobiles, etc. Took a drive up there Saturday afternoon to see if we could get to the gate at the top (7,200 ft elevation). Made it to within 1 mile when I got to a patch of snow that I knew I couldn't get through without having my truck lifted. Tire tracks on the right were deep enough I knew that I'd end up centered high on the snow. There was a guy I passed (actually, 2 guys their wives and a baby all in the one SUV) that came up behind me. He's driving an Excursion with mud tires but no lift. I turn around and expect him to do the same...you know those fords have less clearance than just about any toyota! He continued closer to the patch of snow (it's about 2 - 3 feet deep, and maybe 50 feet long), stopped, then the two men got out and locked the hubs (they still make locking hubs?). So my wife, daughter, and I wait to see him get stuck. I knew if I couldn't make it, there was no way he would with a lot less clearance.
He gets halfway and guess what? Yep, ALL 4 WHEELS IN THE AIR!!! We tried, but there was no way I could pull an 8,000 pound SUV resting up on the snow/ice. Maybe it would have worked had I been able to pull him from the dry pavement, but I had to get in a foot-plus of snow for the tow rope to even reach.
Ended up driving his wife and daughter to their house where she was going to go back up with their jeep and the winch. I have to call them to get my shovel back (that I left with them) to see if it worked. I really have my doubts. I envision that heavy vehicle pulling the jeep toward it with the winch rather than the other way around.
Good thing I was using my brain because had I not waited around, they probably would have been stuck up there in freezing temps all night long (with a baby). People just don't think.
Oh, and I did think of a way after I got home (too late to help them with no cell service up there) to get a vehicle unstuck from a situation like that. We tried putting rocks under the tires to get it to drive up on them, but just couldn't do it with the ice/snow. So I thought later, why not pull out their tire jack, jack the truck up, then set the tires down on the big rocks we had collected and tried to shove under them? That should have worked. So, I learned something from their stupidity.
