very very scared.....SPIDERS!!! AAAHHHHH

OK guys/ gals,

I've got a problem on my hands. There have been many spider web strands on the outside of my truck lately. Then today I look at the weather stripping on my doors, and 3 out of 4 of them had a spider web "cacoon" or whatever you call them on the weather stripping (I cleaned them off obviously). I'm sure it's because I park underneath trees often and a lot of them probably have a lot of spiders. I know you're gonna say "then don't park underneath the trees". But the problem is that I often can't park anywhere else. I go hiking with my dog ALOT and all the parking spots are underneath trees. So far, I have not seen an actual spider in or on my truck, but I'm nervous they're somewhere.

The BIGGEST problem though, is that I am absolutely petrified of spiders. If I'm driving and there's one next to me or something I know I will completely freak out and crash and die in a horrible accident .

So this is where I need your help. I know they have those "bug bomb" things, but I would rather not use something like that since if it can kill spiders and other insects, what's to say it can't harm my dog or myself or someone else in my truck over the long term exposure? In your experiences, what is the best way to go about making sure my truck is spider free and spider proof without using one of those "bug bombs"?

And P.S. You don't have to say it, and I know you're thinking it, I know I'm a complete wuss when it comes to stuff like this.

Thanks for any help!

I've HEARD that Bounce dryer sheets helps to keep bees, yellow jackets, ants, mice, and mosquitoes away. Why not spiders? Try putting one or maybe two in your truck and some somewhere around the exterior as well.

I'm not sure if this actually works, but it's worth a shot. It's much safer than using harsh chemicals and it will make your truck smell fresh!

Go to the you do it car wash, and pressure wash the undercarriage and engine bay, and between all the little cracks. Remove seats and vacuum the shit out of the interior, you'll enjoy it to because it'll remove a lot of the dog hair. Besides that, just regularly keep checking to make sure there no nest in between the door. P.S. always leave you windows up. If you live somewhere that gets really hot, look into window tint. and a windshield screen.

also, the dryer sheets can be useful as a magnet for cleaning up dog/cat hair on the seats.

These work really well and leave no residue. Park your truck in someone's garage and leave the windows, doors, and hood open. Use all three in a 2 car garage, but I wouldn't put them in your truck. Home Depot sells them too I think. I use these in my house once a year and the spiders are dead afterwards. There is a perfume odor that will go away in a day or two. Don't use the other bug bombs because most leave behind a residue.

Just take it to your local car wash and have them clean it inside and out and let them have fun with the critters.

This reminds me of my friend when we were back in high school. There was a spider inside the car and we were coming to a red light. While the car was slowing down, at about 5 mph he threw it in park and ditched the car. The transmission made the loudest noise I have ever heard haha. He is terrified of spiders.

I was cruising down the freeway when I noticed this big brown spider (about 3" leg spread) on my driver's outside rearview mirror. I rolled up a magazine I had and lowered the window just enough to push the spider off the mirror and have it gone with the wind. When the magazine got close, the spider jumped onto the driver's window and scurried inside, jumps on my seat belt and runs into the back seat. I take the next exit and pull into a post office parking lot. When I open the back door the spider is by the armrest, I go to hit it and he runs outside, before I can close the door he runs back inside. This happens about three more times before I finally get him on the outside and knock him off the truck. I had to explain to a few people watching why I was opening and closing my door and acting like an idiot.

I think I'm going to invest in a few boxes of dryer sheets tomorrow. I'm going to put them all over the truck and also between the doors when I park to go hiking. I think there might be one or two lurking between the weather stripping of the doors. I might have to sack up and go hunting for them someday.

It just creeps me out that they may be somewhere but I just don't know where. It also makes me nervous that the "cacoons" or "nests" I saw may contain spider eggs or something that may have hatched. If that happens I may have to just burn the truck.

Anybody remember that spider movie with John Goodman?

How about the scene in Tommy Boy when Farrely and Spade get pulled over and jump out of the car screaming "BEES!!!"?

My cousin in Australia actually had an experience with one of these one time:

She actually had to pull off the road and call animal control to get it out of the car.
