Missing the Truck...

I tell you, life is a funny thing. This January, the job was in the shitter the economy was/is tanking and I was facing a harsh decision of either selling or trading in my truck to save some money. March comes along, I get hit with a 10% paycut and a warning that the company has enough funds to stay afloat a year and there is nothing happening. I freak out, start cutting expenses including the truck. I get a Corolla S... Not bad, but its not a Tacoma. You might remember it, here is a link to the thread:It's a SAD DAY - Tacoma Traded In - Thank You

Now 4 months later, the company is seemingly on its way back with shows booked through next summer and enough stuff in the pipe to assure something would stick for the end of next year. I'm driving around in a car I am not happy with and missing my good old truck... WTH...

I guess I just need to vent and after 2+ years of coming to this site and reading any time I am bored, this seems like the best outlet.

I want my truck back, but according to the trusty Excel spreadsheet I created I would need to keep the car for two years as to not take a hit on it. Meaning, after two years the loss I took in the Tacoma would be gone with the savings I get from driving around in a car that costs 12k less and sucks up half the fuel.

Now, do I wait to see what 2011 brings for Tacoma, suck it up with the car and keep it in pristine condition for a possible sale late 2010, to buy the new body Taco... Buying the 2010 now does not make much sense, but I am unhappy. Maybe give the company a year to be sure all is well, and everything continues to move on an even keel.

What do you all think, I miss my truck so much the freaking Ridgeline is starting to look good.

that sucks man. i work in the oilfield and there have been layoffs left and right and its still going on. i bit the bullet and bought my tacoma last month anyway, because I got some of the higher ups here at my job to tell me I am not going to be at risk.

my advise to you is to hold on to the Corolla until 2011. Its not worth putting yourself in a bind financialy in uncertain economic times like these. Wait until the new Taco is released, if you dont like it you could always get a used 05-10 taco

E-slap? Screw that. I'll go to his house. Ridegelines are terrible.

lol about the Ridgeline. I'd rather drive a Corolla. It sounds like you made the right decision initially. The economy is going to get worse in the next 6 months so you should probably just stick it out. The situation sucks no doubt though. Just take the Highlander and give wifey the Corolla!

Cheers

Easier said than done... She loves her Highlander and hates the Corolla. She has never been a car person.

unless you bought a used corolla S for less than 7k why would you even sell your truck in the first place? Please dont tell me you sold your tacoma lost 4k and bought a new 15k whatever corolla S and thought it was a good plan.

I know the feeling. I sold my Taco last week. I miss it, but with the gas hitting $2.96 a gallon up here, and going up daily, it does not hurt too bad. I only lost $3000. So it is not bad, considering I used it for a couple of years.

I am looking for a commuter car right now. Do not want to buy new.
In this economy I wanted to have as little debt as possible. Now I have mortgage, and that's it.

Traded in the truck, did not sell it. The goal was to lower my monthly payment. Which I did cut in more than half. I also had 7k equity in the truck. When I say loss, I mean I paid 27 for the truck and only got 22.5 in the trade in. Hence the 4k+ hit.

hind sight is 20/20, but if it was a lower montly payment, you might have been able to refi over a longer term, and maybe a lower rate.
