Toyota Diesel

I wonder when or if Toyota plans on bringing their diesel engine to America. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

No, and they never will.

The US EPA has a hard on for diesels making them all but impossible to use in anything under a 3/4 ton truck, and even those are getting worse all the time. Factor in the extra cost, and it wouldn't sell well here anyway. It didn't back in the 80s when we did have the option.

I"ll tell you what VW is making a killing with that Clean diesel Jetta. I was in the market for one and once the cash for clunkers came out you cant touch one for under sticker. And the crazy part is that the new box comes out in Sept/October and if you want a jetta tdi station wagon your pretty much ordering it so maybe Toyota will see VW making money on this and hop on. But realisticly Toyota is in love with hybrids so I doubt they bring over a diesel engine even though a hybrid diesel would be sick probaly 50-70+ mpg (Jetta gets close to 50)

Ha ha yeah there are literally 8,374,847.05 threads on this....

BUT what if you just purchased the engine from abroad? Surely you could get one right? I don't know if its even possible to do a swap on account of the transmission (If its even different) or wiring, or anything else- anyone a little more mechanically inclined know if you could just do an engine swap???

The tranny might work but I know you would definitely need a different computer. Its to much work to do a gas to diesel swap.
