I was wondering if the trd s/c kit is worth the money. I would like more power but am skeptical about the dealer installing it. I have the extended warranty 100k. One thing im not for sure about is that i had a glasspack put on replacing factory and hope that didnt affect the warranty. If it did then it might not be the best to get a s/c and instead just put an air intake and a performance exhaust on. All input would be helpful to my decision.
Thanks

You can find tons of TRD supercharger data, testimonials, gripes, etc., over at customtacos.com.
The TRD S/C has both admirers and detractors. If you want to add it, you'd better be prepared to go beyond the basic installation to include the available upgrades from Underdog Racing Development (URD - Gadget's outfit).
It's an involved thing to do, and it's the kind of mod that'll occupy your attention forever after...
It all depends how much $$$ you're willing to invest. Enola is correct in that you will spend a lot of time tweaking and refining your SC. If you do go that route, do what Enola says and head on over to www.gadgetonline.com and pick up his SC performance kit from URD. If the SC is too much of a headache then go the route of new headers and exhaust. BTW, don't get a K&N or anything like that, just a waste of money IMO.
Enola, glad to see you here to spread your wealth of knowledge!

Thanks Humanoid for the website. There is great info there. The induction section was mind blowing. I'm glad i never wasted money on the k&n cold air kit. I removed the elbow from my air box like they said and it maid a noticeable difference. I do have a drop in k&n filter that I will be replacing with the Amsoil TS-115. Thanks again.
Has anyone done the open air box mod or the elbow removal or a combination. If so what did you think of it?
Yes, I have the deckplate mod along with the elbow removal mod. It's the same as the K&N FIPK, but you don't have to pay $200 for the HP. Check out Gadget's link I posted up above and when you get to his site, click "My 4Runner" and scroll down and click"air induction" and you can see the dynos he's done comparing the K&N piece o' crap and the deckplate/elbow mod and the results comparing the 2.
Wouldn't you be pulling in hot engine compartment air with an open box?
Exactly right. I never did understood the logic why people would replace their stock box with an exposed cone filter or get kits such as an k&n type intake and call it an cold air intake when all it does is draw in hot engine compartment air. Sure you'll be drawing more air more quickly but also less dense. The only reason some intake kits work better is because the stock is more restrictive then even the hot air sucking aftermarket kit. The stock system is your only true cold air intake.
On a side note, if any of you have a tundra, don't bother getting an k&n kit or other similar. Sure you'll get a rush of pleasure air moise but that's about all you get from it. Dyno's done by numerous tundra owners shows a loss in hp and tq below 5000-5400rpm and gain some after that, but what's there to gain when the tundra redlines at 5600rpm. An extra 200rpm near redline is hardly worth it.

I've had one since 99 on my 4Runner. No problems at all. Very fast at all rpms.
Great in the mountains or over Grapevine or 15 to Vegas.
Only down side is must use preminum gas. Best investment I've made.

according to the law,it is illegal for a dealer to void your warrenty for mods, unless they can actually prove that the mod negatively affects the vehicle,or something like that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson-Moss_Warranty_Act
