Doesn't say for sure but this article says Toyota plans to add 10 new hybrid models to its lineup. Anybody heard or seen anything about the Tacoma being one of them?

A few months ago, I read a press release by Toyota that said they will offer a hybrid engine in ALL their vehicles starting in 2008.....I'd be interested to compare my current V-6 that gets around 23 mpg with a hybrid engine.

Boo
23 mpg out of the V-6. How the hell are you doing that?
I have 2200 km on mine,(V6, 6 speed, dble cab, TRD) and on my last tank, I got 21.8 MPG, (all city). I might get a bit better once it's broke in, and I'm going to switch to synthetic and put a K&N air filter. I should get at least 23 when that's all done.

This might be another case of using Imperial (British/Canadian/etc) gallons - 4.55 litres - as opposed to US gallons - 3.79 litres. If that's the case, then 23 miles per Imperial gallon is about 19 miles per US gallon, which seems reasonable for the V6 from what I understand.
In any event, you Americans should really consider going metric
Great we'll all write letters to the government about going metric. We would also include giving every citizen health insurance.
I hope you're kidding....socialized health care would be an aweful idea and send America's economy right down the toilet. (Just like Germany's and France's who have 20% and 10% unemployment right now, respectively)
the pocket part of me wishes we had socialized health care (I'll be having my 4th trip under the knife later this month) but the logical part of me realizes it would probably hurt our country at this point more than solve anything. This country is too capitalist to try and socialize anything now

Sorry about hijacking the thread. Well, no, actually, that was ditchin's fault But to redeem myself just a little, I was wondering the same thing - about a hybrid Taco, that is.
Interesting article, but it doesn't seem like it's going to happen for 2006 and I was planning on buying a new truck next summer. I'd be very interested in seeing what they come up with. On the other hand, hybrids historically (if you consider hybrids to have a history) have not been the best economic choice if you take into account the high initial price. In order to recoup the cost of a hybrid Highlander, you'd probably have to drive for several years to see any benefits.
On the other hand, environmentally speaking... I guess it depends on the implementation. I remember reading an article of how the hybrid Honda Accord actually has higher fuel consumption compared to a conventional model. Honda seems to have been after increased performance rather than increased fuel economy.
He lives in canada so he uses the metric system... 2200 KM = around 3542 miles.
Wow this is an oooooolllllllllllddddddddd thread. But I do love the math it should be 2200km = 1375 miles, even if you do the math for it (2200 x 1.6 = 3520) it is still wrong.
I think the hybrids are overated, all you need is smarter people not smarter cars. Think about it if everyone started walking to the store for that one item or items we could solve 2 problems obesity and pollution
