If you're ocncerned about warranty issues, removing the snorkel will have the same effect on your warranty as throwing an aftermarket intake on there.

Anyway, how much you gain from a cold air intake or short ram intake on your 1ZZ is totally dependent on how the engine responds to it. It varies from engine to engine. I am quite sure you will gain quite a bit. Atleast around 6 - 7 whp. Having said that, from personal experience I know for a fact that the 2ZZ GE Celica GTS engine (Corolla XRS) responds extremely well to intake (because the stock intake is too restrictive) and driving makes you feel every bit of the gains. It is dyno proven that it increases horsepower from 150 wheel horsepower to 162 - 163 wheel horsepower (around 185 at the crank). Throw an exhaust and that adds another 5 - 6 whp. Now we are talking around 192 - 194 HP at the crank on the 2ZZ with simple mods out from a 1.8 liter engine. However, I am sure you will not lose any power unless the installation is not done correctly.
oh shit, that has to be one of the funniest things I've ever read. An intake and exhaust on the xrs and you'll be pushing 192hp
