Actually, if the suspension is raised, the truck will be closer to the ground.
If the suspension is lowered, the truck will be farther from the ground.
The difference is that 'lowering' kits actually raise the suspension into a closer relationship to the body/frame, and 'lift' kits actually lower the suspension away from the body frame. The marketing folks like to call it 'lower' and 'lift' because that's what a person relates to, the height of the truck, not the actual mechanics involved in doing so. This is also why there are so many really scary steering setups for 'lifted' trucks and so many really scary rear suspension setups for 'lowered' trucks.
Ever look at a jeep that has more than 2 feet of 'lift' ? The amount of leverage on those axels should scare the owner into some state of logic, but unfortunately, it doesn't, and they flip them onto unsuspecting motorists.
