Toyota gets in on the iPod integration game

When a new car lists "iPod Jack" in its feature list, you never know just how much of a feature that really is. Sometimes it just means your iPod will play and charge while plugged in to the car stereo, but forget about changing artists or choosing a new playlist unless you fish it out of whatever oddly-shaped hole that's been left for it. And retrofitting for a lot of cars means an expensive stay at the electronics store, or wires that cross from here to there.
Toyota has just released an iPod integration retrofit kit that will make your new auxiliary input look like it came straight from the factory. And it will give you full control of all iPod functions from either the head unit or the steering wheel. Click Read to check out the full press release.

That's definitely nice. So much safer in driving then staring down at your iPod trying to change a song. Will they sell in the US?

This feature has been available for a while now. I know the TC had it since it's release and I think even the new Camries got it too.

Yeah, my '07 Camry only has the AUX input, but not much for a whole iPod integration plug.

1.Finally.
2.Bet ya $5 you will forget it at leats once while it's in there.
3.Retrofitting is easy, it's called a cassette tape. They have those that conenct to your iPod or other MP3 device.
4.Will this only work with iPods?
5.If 4. is yes, then I am not sold.

Well duh I know I can use a cassette tape, thats not the point. I have an AUX input that I currently use already, but with this iPod integration, the best feature is the sound quality of an AUX input with a direct connection and it charges the iPod at the same time.

I don't mind leaving the iPod there if it's behind a cover, I just hope it'll turn itself off and turn on when I turn the car on/off.

Wink

Not to sound conservative but, WTH with i-pods everywhere. I mean auto manufacturers will advertise such as: "260 hp engine, leather interior, state of the art Navigation System and I-Pod jack". Is it that important? If it is, I'd get stock in Apple Inc.

Ya its a big deal. Nearly everyone I know has an ipod or some kind of mp3 player and most people are converting to the ipod. I was leary of it when I got my first one back in 04. I wanted to get Dell's unit as I never liked apple but they really did their homework with the ipod and I cant imagine life without it.

In Canada the iPod interface # is PU48A-20072 and retails for $283.00 plus the install
It is compatible with: iPod Mini V1.4.1
