Say goodbye to the Solara - no more convertible in the lineup.

This looks like a promising vehicle.

Anyone know about the 2.7L I-4? Will this be a variant of the 2.7L I-4 from the Tacoma, an expanded version of the 2AZ-FE 2.4L from the Camry, or something else altogether?

I dunno. The Venza site contains the first mention of a 2.7L I-4 that I've ever seen in a Toyota FWD car. The Taco has had one, of course, and that's part of my question -- the origin of the Venza's 2.7L.

^the "experience" site says that it will be an "all new 2.7L engine". it's most likely the replacement for the 2.4L 2az-fe, supposedly named the AR series.

^i'd say so. the venza is basically positioned as a camry station wagon with a little lift in its suspension. the dimensions aren't too far off (it's not that longer), there is no 3rd row option, and it uses a front-engine FWD/AWD layout- which will house at least one of the engines already implemented in the camry (the 2zr-fe), and in a similar fasion (transversely-mounted). the highlander, which somewhat filled that gap in its introduction (first generation), is just another suv now (still based on camry, but very unique)- a less truck-like choice in the mid-size suv-market (the 4-runner is obviously the more truck-like out of the two).

Are there any new details of exactly when the Venza will hit dealerships? Anyone have any inside scoop on the pricing as well?

Also I watched a youtube video of a guy going through the Venza at an auto show and the rear hatch space looked literally useless. No way a couple of boxer dogs could fit back there! Ha...

^if the rear hatch were any bigger, you'd might as well go for a highlander. there are two mid-size suvs in the toyota camp already- i don't think toyota wants to classify the venza as a mid-size suv by default (to make three). so the venza gets away with being classified as a mid-size station wagon with huge wheels. toyota wants to attract the owners of suvs that are feeling bad about their decision, need the space and attractiveness of an suv, but not wanting a station wagon.

hence the venza.

in fact, i think the epa might classify all three under the "midsize station wagon".

Originality together with creativity, it is such wonderful piece of production. Guess somebody sure likes the Ford razor grill look? I heard that the production edition of this was revealed as the Mark X Zio in Japan earlier this year.

Venza Design Sketch Video

Hey there. For those interested in more on the all-new Venza, we just added a time-lapsed video of Venza's exterior designer sketching the vehicle. We also added some new photos to Toyota's flickr account.

Visit www.toyotaopenroad.com for the post.

Also, we're developing more Venza content/photos as I type. We'll keep ya in the loop.
