At a press conference in Japan today, Toyota CEO Katsuaki Watanabe finally confirmed that his company is jointly developing a pair of rear-wheel-drive sports cars with Subaru. Each brand will get its own version of the car, which will be powered by one of Subaru's boxer engines, though the engine's displacement, power output and even number of cylinders is not yet known.
finally, some confirmation to end the rumors....or at least some. haha. I'm assuming this is going to take over from where the ae86 and celica left off. not bad.

Hmm...I hope that by 2011 gas is still under $150/gallon...
But that car does look pretty sick, like the article said, it's been since the MR2 that Toyota had a real sports car. I hope that this car is pretty sick, to harken back to the Supra days when Toyota made a serious performance car (still one of my favorites).
If it has the performance of the Sti and the fit n finish of toyota I would buy one. I had 2 Wrxs one an Sti and the interior is sort of cheap. Both carpet wore holes near the dead pedal before 20K miles. But it was the most fun car I ever had.

well here's a kinda old update on it, maybe they'll change it from a 1.5L to a stronger one, but i guess it seems like this is gonna be their celica ressurection. Sad that it's pushed back to 2011 because nissan is making their move for a new RWD car for 2010 and kinda annoying cuz i'm getting tired of their lame design because to me the G35 and the 350z looks the freaken same haha. Seems like toyota paved the way for rear wheel drive cars. Oh yea here's a article on the Ae86 revival and another RWD they gonna do, so be kinda happy and hope that they do bring it overseas
