With several previous leaks and two teaser images, the 2012 Toyota Camry may not need an official introduction any more, after a copy of a French Canadian publication detailing the new sedan has hit the web.
The overall shape of the new Camry is very close to the outgoing model, but exchanges angles for some of the bulbous bits found on the 2011 version. As for what's under the hood, the new Camry is offered with a standard 4-cylinder and a Hybrid model, plus it retains a V6 engine option - when most other automakers are moving away from V6s.
According to the published details, the 4-cylinder model makes 179-hp and 171 lb-ft of torque, while the V6 model makes 268-hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. Listed fuel economy for the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder is 7.5 L/100km, which equates to 31.4 mpg.
As for the Hybrid model, the figures listed include a total 187-hp with a 41.3 mpg (5.7 L/100km) rating. If these numbers prove accurate, this would make the Camry Hybrid the most fuel efficient mid-size sedan, besting even the new Sonata Hybrid.
Also of note, on the inside of the car is what appears to be Toyota's new Entune telematics system. First introduced on the new Prius V, find out more about how it works here.
Interesting. I was really hoping they increased engine output for the V6 but alas, just another carry over. At least they buffed the 4 cylinder up a little bit.

Like the Gen 5, the V6 was carried over but then added variable valve timing. Later, the 3.3 was introduced. I do like the numbers on the 4-cylinder but I can't say the same to the exterior. Hopefully they will improve the styling with a mid-generation change.
From that angle the car looks smaller than it is... almost like a Corolla. But engine up to 180hp, almost as much as the Accords with their 190hp, but probably beefier... V6 will probably get DI mid-cycle and get boosted to maybe 285-295hp? Or because of fuel economy we might get a shrunken 3.3 with DI making the same power? Or we might just get a transplant from the IS350.

I really hope that they added direct injection to both engines and gussied up the interior. I do not like the vast fields of cheap hard plastic and their tech is getting a bit long in the tooth. Given some of the fit and finish issues with the last generation, which were never an issue before, I would be hard pressed to buy a new Camry. That would be the first time in my life I have not owned a Toyota. Fortunately, my 2000 Camry runs like a champ.
I am afraid they will not be able to keep up with Hyundai and others that are offering nicer packages for a comparable price point.
It will definitely sell, and sell to those people who prefer traditional styling. Given the popularity, Camry will always have its buyers and what not. The Camry SE looks to be the choice to get IMO, just as I would prefer for the current outgoing model.
Question is, as Camry and Accord's marketshare are declining, how much more will the competition gain or not, since Camry is still top dog in sales at this point. The Accord has been passed, so the midsize market has never been this competitive as ever.
It looks too Corolla like. The front fascia does look pretty nice though.

Sorry, but from this pic, I just don't see enough of a difference on the outside to be calling it the completely redesigned new camry...IMO. with the exception of the front grill and headlights, there is really not that much difference from the gen 6. I heard the interior is all new, we will see.

I don't like it that much because its taking the shape of a carolla but peole that like the carolla will buy it especially since it has the power of the 2011 se camry and the weight of a carolla.
