As of 2005, the Camry is produced at Toyota plants in Japan, Australia; and Georgetown, Kentucky, USA, with CKD assembly operations in Vietnam, Philippines; and Thailand. It is also assembled from CKD-kits at Toyota's local partners in Malaysia and Taiwan.
Check the VIN #, If the first digit is "J", it was made in Japan. If it's "1" It's made in the United States.

This is completely different to what he is asking. The ENGINE build location is not stated in the VIN #.
I would say that the engine was built locally, or else, came in short block form from Japan, and was finished off in the US.
