Well don't beat yourself up... Dealing with the stealerships is a learning process...
My first vehicle purchase was a 92 Toyota corolla 10 years ago...
I was 20 years old and just walked into the dealership totally unprepared on a Friday night...
All I ever asked about was the monthly payment... I don't believe I even inquired about the total $$ amount of the vehicle...
I think a few months after the fact I went through the paperwork and finally realized what I had paid for it... While not a total rip I'm sure I could have gotten them to come down several thousand...
For the Next purchase a Dodge Truck I went in with blue book numbers in hard and I knew what I was willing to pay... I tried to get them to come down $500 below their advertised price (which was at blue book) but no go... I should have walked out...
They kept me waiting for hours playing the games... Then I got it in the end and purchased an extended maintenance contact That was a waste...
Next Came Our 2004 Sienna... I did months of research on that one... I emailed every dealer in the entire state with only question Here is what I want... What is your total out the door price... The responses I received were hilarious!
But a few did come back with a good deal... Since this was a new purchase it made things easier... After checking out the Van, test driving it... I spent a mere 15 minutes in the dealership signing the final paperwork... That was by far the fastest and easiest deal... However I too got it on my trade in...
For my newest car an 02 corolla I think I did alright.. I paid somewhere between dealer trade and Person to Person sale... I wanted to get it lower but you have to take into account your time as well... Sure I can sit and go back and forth a dozen times with the dealer... but I would be there all day... This time I choose to sell my truck myself vs trading it in... I got several thousand more then what any dealer would give me and it took like 2 - 3 weeks to sell it...
So I guess in the end... Don't beat yourself up over the price... If you have a vehicle you like be happy with it... Lean from your experience for the next time.... stearlerships are the worst... Imagine if we had to purchase all our goods like that... You roll your grocery cart upto the checkout and at the end, the manager comes out "Lets talk about payments..."
