Parts needed for custom 1980 Toyota Corona

My grandfather has put a 4.3 Chevy engine into his 1980 Toyota Corona w/ 5spd transmission. He calls it his "Chevota" . It still has the stock 8"rear end but he has changed the ring & pinion to 3.33 out of a Celica and he needs a higher ratio, say around 3.00 or higher. I have searched and searched and cannot find anywhere to purchase a higher ring & pinion for him. Anyone know any other models that are interchangeable into a 1980 Corona with a 8" rear differential? Any help is appreciated as this is a needle in a hay stack for me. Thanks in advance. Sean.

8in rear end?

thats the rear in the 4x4 trucks with six lugs aka G code

typical 2wd trucks have F code 7.5 n 5 lugs

my corona has a 6.7 same size as my celica, or T code and 4 lugs.

a couple of exceptions:

MKI supra 79-81 aka "celica-supra" came with a 4 lug 7.5 and so did the 4 lug toyota vans.

if you used a celica ring and pinion it could only be a T or F code axl.

there are quite a few choices out there for T n G code ring and pinions. i bet the width is fairly close but i dont know for sure. besides the corona is leaf sprung in the rear, he could put a for 9 in it if he wanted.

you can find the axl code on the firewall on the build plate.
this is from a 81 celica supra with a F312 or 7.5 n 3.73

The Corona is not leaf-sprung in the rear, unless maybe the wagon were. It has coil-springs.

i have parted out 4 coronas from 75-78 3 wagons and 1 coupe(78)own a 74 wagon and seen a couple 80-82's

all of em were leaf sprung in the rear, repeat ALL. really would like to see pics of a coil suspension corona.

even if it did have a coil spring rear end it would still have a 6.7in diff NOT a 8in

thats cheating

a mkII is a whole different animal then a regular corona.

mkII

reg style

now if this whole time the "custom corona" has been a mkII i feel like a shmuck. the mkII DID come with a F code diff , a I-6 eng and a 4-link, where the reg came with a T code diff, a I-4 eng and leafs.

this is what i get for ass-u-me-ing

shonuff, I don't have pics, but trust me that my Corona has coil springs all around.

yup, that's because your 'rona is a later model to that of the wagon shonuff posted. the 79 sedans did have coil springs all around but the wagons of the same year model still were on leaf springs.

i will admit my ignorance of the newer models.

ive only seen wagons after 78.

i must admit its freakin really cool to finnaly have a forum where corona dorks can argue about suspension and years

also makes me wonder what special goodies a +79 MKII corona has...

or was that just a cressida?

edit:
also curious if the corona has the same 4-link setup as a celica.

it's possible that coronas would have a similar suspension setup to celicas. both models used to be closely related. but i'm not sure which ones in particular.

That would be a great project for you, gaijin.
