Get yourself a Haynes manual. ebay probably has them. Don't know if local parts store has one for a car that old, but you can check. If the hoses are old, it would be worth replacing them to make sure no cracks or leaks exist. Check the condition of your mixture screw. I assume all your ignition parts are new or in good condition.

Thanks bryan, replaced the plugs and the capsand rotors. I was able to find a diagram from autozone.com website. They all have the diagrams for all model year toyota. It was very helpfulin someways. Though I wish that they assign name of parts as not all are given their designated abbreviation.

It still runs rich but not as bad as before. the air mixture jet i took out and it was somewhat screwed in to tight adn it left a gouge ring on the tip. need to find where I can get this one. I did sand it down smooth but to a point but it still did not solve it though it runs much better now. Still failed smog check though.

thanks.
