Might be buying a Corona

Someone locally is selling a 1980 auto for $950. Any advice? I havent seen it yet, but they said "its a 4 door, auto, needs paint, straight body no rust or dents, runs good. " Correct me if I am wrong, but it has a carb. 20r. Did any of these have power options or anything. Thanks

They are cool cars and down here in Texas people are really snatching up vintage Toyota's that are in decent shape left and right.. Alot of people are getting a renewed interest in fixing up/restoring old Japanese iron. I don't know if it is the economy or how easy/fun/simple/cheap these cars are to work with. I say go for it. BTW, I have a 1970-1982 Corona Shop Manual (Clymer) that I'll sell you for cheap. email: draytonwebb@yahoo.com
Good luck on the deal!

I don't believe there were any power options.

I believe there were Power options later on, like Steering and locks, also it have Cruise Control. The Corona was just a scaled down and slightly cheaper Cressida. I would say check it out and make sure the owner has service records and make sure to ask if the Valve clearance/lash has been checked/adjusted. The 20 R engine is renowned for it's durability and reliability just like the 22R. and the M series engines that were used in the Cressida. Good luck

Nothing like buying a car named after a Beer :-) Not bad looking cars too.

A Corona?! Are you serious? I used to own a 1977 Corona wagon years ago. It was one of the most reliable vehicles I've ever owned. These cars never did come with power windows or locks, but a power steering and sunroof were optional on some models. The 1980's Coronas were actually pretty plush inside. The 20R is carbureted and (as mentioned before) is a very durable and reliable engine. Safe to say that the 20R is one of the best engines ever built. For more info on any Toyota check out this site:
http://www.toyotareference.com/

This site has new car brochures for every Toyota sold in the US. Good luck.

The 22R is not too shabby either, as noticed it was used on many Toyota trucks
