Corona Problems

Hey all,

Long time forum lurker, but a tricky problem with my Corona has got me on here to ask for some help.

I've a 1991 imported (from Japan) Corona sedan, with a 3S-FE engine.

It runs fine 90% of the time but at completely random intervals will lose power and the engine will cut out. After waiting 30seconds - 20min I can restart it and it will keep going as per normal for the next day or two.

I've tried -
- the diagnostics trick, but have no error codes coming up.
- changed the fuel filter (first thought)
- Drained and replaced the fuel (possibly bad fuel)
- I've put a voltmeter on the MAP sensor, and with the ignition on but engine off it was showing 4volts (I believe it should show 5volts?) and at idle it will sit around 1.6volts.

Now my limited mechanical knowledge is exhausted, and my only remaining fix is to change the MAP sensor over.

Question #1
Do you guys know of any other reasons for intermittent complete loss of power.

Q#2
Do you guys know if the MAP sensor is interchangeable with Camry or Corolla models of the same era?

Thanks guys,

hopefully my luxury car will last another 20 years!

Wish I could help, Coronas ended in the USA in 1982.
