Well, at the very least you can do is "look" -- at the VIN, which is an easy way to know.
Japan-built VIN's will start with a "J." US-built VIN's will start with a "4."
Many dealers now have their new-car inventories online -- and many include the VIN in that information, too. So, it might be easy to browse around the dealers in your area online before you head out, to see if anyone has any "J-VIN" cars on their lots....
One more halfway-unrelated tidbit for everyone: My dealer guys mentioned to me that they've got every single Hybrid they're allocated to get at least through the rest of the year already "spoken for" on their waiting list. We may never see a Hybrid just sitting on the lot waiting for a buyer to wander in, at least in my area!
