It just came across my mind after looking at some AutoTrader listings, but how hard would it be to get a 4dr version up to specs with the gts using aftermarket parts instead of Toyota stock parts? Of course the engine (4afe) would need to be changed to a 4age EFI, but would everything else match up fine?

Yep.. you would need OEM parts from the GTS actually, mostly the strut bar (would need to drill firewall), front sway bars, rear sway bars, front serviceable struts (rears are the same).
As for motor, you could go with either Bigport or smallport 16V 4AGEs or go to a 20V 4AGE or even a Supercharged 4AGZE , you would need the full Engine, transmission, manifolds, ECU, harness, AFM (unless its a MAP sensored motor), and most likely upgrade your fuel pump (even if the sedan FP works, I'd upgrade anyways) and probably the drum brake to disc brake conversion on the rear.
This is something I actually have considered as I wanted to do the same from a GTS to a sedan, but I'm looking at other possibilities with my 89 GTS.
Seems like most everything AE92 is no longer available at the dealer.
Just got off the phone with my toyota dealer...
GTS Sways front and rear 97.63 from the factory..per bar
And... the strut tower brace....THEY DO NOT HAVE IT! had to call the warehouse, and now he's gonna call japan to see if they can special order it from japan.....he said they no longer have it on file nor is it in thier stock....I sugessted that it was a TRD piece, and when he checked, even TRD is not showing up on his computer....still awaiting his call.
well...sorry to say, but Toyota no longer makes the Strut brace for the GTS...discontinued....better off making one by yourself or look for one on ebay.
Just get one from the junkyard jeez, and to make it stiffer weld a bar across betwee nthe two srut or whatever locations like straight across i mean(not onto the car of course) and stiffen it up with some welding.....
Do any of you guys know if the Ontario/Canada versions of the SR5 came with the 4A-F or 4A-FE? In the case of the 4A-FE swapping in a 4A-GE, would the gas tank, ecu + harness, transmission, or fuel pump need to be swapped as well to suit the 4A-GE?
