Won't start, 1986 ae82 4alc

My car is turning over fine, but does not fire whatsoever. Even with starting fluid there is no effect. Since the starting fluid doesn't help I'm assuming it isnot a fuel problem. I put a new filter in anyway. I replaced the fuel pump about 5k ago. I had new plugs and wires, so I went ahead and installed them. Rotor looked pretty bad to me so I put a new one on and cleaned up the points. Still wouldn't start. I haven't checked the timing, but it was running fine before this except for a flat spot in the carb. I also have not checked for spark. I will do that on Monday. If I find I do have spark where do I go from there? If not? Sorry for the newbie questions. I've done alright with this car so far, but unsure where to start with this problem.

check for spark, no spark maybe the coil is gone. If there is maybe its starving for fuel so its not actually burning anything
