Question How rare is a Nova SS?

I remember years ago finding a black 80's Nova for sale with a 4age in it and it said SS on the side. It was sort of rough but cheap. I thought this car was done up this way by a previous owner. So I passed it up thinking it was a hack job.

The other day I got smoked unknowingly by another black 80's Nova with the SS on the side? I was in my truck and loaded down so I couldn't just catch them but I did see them at the next light through some of the other cars.

There is no way it was the same car I almost bought years ago but it looked just like it, just cleaner and with Enkie(sp) Wheels.. A super quick 80's Nova.. What is up with that??

Were there Real Nova SS's with 4AGE's or could it be someones customized sleeper project?

It certainly got me thinking as I never thought about an 80's Nova as a possible candidate for a donor car for my 4AGTE motor..hmmm.

Yes Nova SS based on the AE82 chassis did exist. It does come with a 4AGE in it.

All I can find:

www.reviewcentre.com/reviews265.html

I found another site earlier, but can't find it again. It said the Corolla Sprint was the Nova in the US. But that was imported for Chevrolet like the Geo. So was it Corolla badged, or was it Chevy badged like the GEO?

From what I could see it was black with a red stripe and a coffee can sized exhaust tip... I have been looking for one on the net and find nothing even mentioned about them yet but I certain am interested in learning more about them...

There is/was such thing as an AE82 Nova SS. AE82 Nova Twincam, yes. The 4AGE they came with were bluetops, so they're quick, but not THAT fast.

OK, maybe it was no Supercharged MR2 but it certainly squealed away from me like a pig being chased by a farm kid.

All I can say is I never seen an 80's Nova move like that . I want to learn more about them. I seen a few places briefly mention the option but don't offer much of any info. It seems there were an undetermined amount of those made from 87-88? Is that right? I want to find one now.

Thanks

Oh yes, to clarify, these are not in really any way connected or rleated to Chevrolet Novas of the muscle car years.
