You can rent the kit from autozone... thats what me and my friend did to change his i think or that might have been the ball joints. If so they might have a kit instead of having to go and buy the tools.
yeah well autozone isn't here in Ontario, at least where I am. Canandian tire doesn't have any in the ones around me either, they are all either replacing the kits or they are rented out already...
because I don't have the money currently.
Right now I just use my 2 sets of snap on wrenches, metric and imperial. One side is the fork style and the other the octagone style. But like I said problem is the largest I have is 1 inch. The tie rod end on the inside requires larger, I might just try the set of channel locks I have.

Hey Freakinbox, Did you ever get that inner tie rod off? The reason I am asking is that I am trying to do the same thing on the passenger side. The rack side is 19 mm and I am using a big crecent wrench to turn the big tie rod end. There is a some sort of lock washer that is preventing me from unscrewing it off of the rack. Could appreciate some advice.

I just replaced the outer and inner tie-rods on my 86 Corolla Hatchback. One side we got with a crescent wrench/passenger side...the drivers side we got with a plumbers pipe wrench. I got a tool from Autozone and it didn`t fit..too small...I`ll get my money back but what a pain....anyway..Good Luck...they came off pretty easy too.My Corolla has 260,000 miles on it and they looked like the originals....
take a long pry bar and line it up with the bent over washer, give it a wack with a hammer where it has been bent in and that will allow the inner tie rod to come loose. make sure to have the wheels turned in so that the side your working on will be more accessible. There will probably be loctite so you'll have to use a some elbow grease.
Got em loose with a crescent wrench on one side and a pipe wrench on the other.Came off pretty easy and put locktite and the new lock washers on when replacing.Really tightened up the front end.Had it alighned the next day and it steers like a go cart......fun,fun,fun....brakes next.....
