hey guys, I just bought an HKS sport exhaust for my AE92 SR5 because my old exhaust broke at the axle, which didn't actually sound that bad, but I kind of need an exhaust for emissions... so I finally broke down and bought a new one.
does anyone else have the HKS exhaust? it's the only one I found that wasn't horrendous and big and chromey. and I didn't want to bother having a custom one made.
how does it sound? how do you like it? blah blah blah.
when I get mine I'll post pics of it and give my official review (with stars and thumbs and everything :-P ).
just thought other people might want some info on the exhaust.

I'm not sure if the HKS exhaust will work with the SR5, I thought it was only good for the GTS piping. Put it on and let us know.
we'll see, I started a thread a while ago, and everyone said that GTS catbacks would fit SR5s fine, but I'm not sure how accurate that information was :-P.
if not, I have a friend with a welder, I can make it fit
is the GTS piping different after the exhaust manifold?

UPDATE (kind of): I measured the width of the piping of my exhaust today real quick, and it looked like is was 2 inches to me (I just did it real quick, I didn't jack it up or anything. On the HKS website it says the piping width of their exhaust is 50mm which converts to just about 2 inches, so I think I'll be fine.

eh, they're ok. they dropped my car lower in the front than in the back which is kind of wierd. they're pretty stiff, most people wouldn't like the ride quality, but I don't really mind, I realize you need to give up ride quality for handling ability... it being lower in the front probably hurts this too because I think it probably tends to dive into pot holes instead of trying to skip over them.
I'm not sure what the actual drop was, my old dampers were amazingly shot, so you would probably get a different drop anyway. when I took my old dampers off I could just push down the piston and it wouldn't come back up... the front drop is pretty decent though, and the back isn't too bad, but it wouldn't hurt to lose another half an inch.
all and all, I would probably go with something else, like eibach or APEX, but if you want a bigger drop than eibach, and can't find APEXs then they're not bad.
I'll take some pictures when I get my exhaust and you can see how they look.
EDIT: also, stiffer dampers would probably work well with them, I can tell that they are just way underdampened with the GR-2s, but I'm not sure what other options you would have. I'm not a big fan of mixing and matching front and rear dampers (mr2 AGX fronts)

I wrote a big long review of my exhaust earlier and then the forum messed up when I posted it so I have to write it again... I'll do it when I get home from work later tonight with pictures this time.

What's the sound like? is it loud? is it quiet? is it a direct bolt on? did it give you 20hp?? LOL! etc.. come on guys!
Sounds great, a little loud for my tastes, fit like a glove on my GT-S, definitely top quality stuff. I put a header/test pipe/cat back on all at the same time, and didnt notice any real gain in power.
ok, so I got home last night and realized that I didn't have any internet in my new place yet and I'm retarded :-P so I'll write my review again now.
so yeah, I really like it. but it did put up a fight.
I tried to install it a few weekends ago, and I got my old exhaust off and then realized that the new one did not really match up at all... I'm not sure weather this was because the SR5 front pipe is different or if I had a wierd custom crappy front pipe, but yeah, it just didn't fit. so I took it to my friend's dad's exhaust shop and got a custom front pipe made (I didn't want to risk ordering an SR5 front pipe and it being the same as my old one, or ordering a GT-S front pipe and it not fitting my exhaust manifold for some reason) so the new front pipe put the cat in the right position and all was good in the world.
my review:
I really like it a lot. it's actually pretty quiet especially in the car. but it deffinitly still sounds deep and sporty. but my car is carburated so it probably sounds a lot different on mine than it does on a GT-S. it also might just sound quiet to me because I've been driving around with no muffler on it for a while :-P
I feels like I might have gotten a little bit of pick-up, but that could just be me imagining things and/or the fact that my exhaust isn't broken anymore so my car is preforming how it should be stock.
It deffinitly looks nice, I really didn't want to have to put on a fart can, and this exhaust is very descrete, but still has a hint of aggressiveness.
and I haven't had any problems with it scraping on speed bumps either, and my car is lowered quite a bit and I have some nasty speed bumps going into my neighborhood, I hate them with a passion.
so yeah, all in all, I like it a lot and I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to look like a ricer. -THE END-
pictures to fallow whenever I get internet at my house, hopefully that will be tonight if I can get home in time to catch the cable guy.
