AE92 Problem With 17" On AE92 Sedan

I've seen some AE92's with 17" rims (205/40-17 Tire Size). When I got the 17" rims with 205/40 17 tires and put them on my corolla, the inside corner of the rear tires rubbed on the bottom spring plate on the strut. The front are fine, but need stiffer springs. How doIalleviate the rubbing problem in the rear?

Theres no way to deal with it, as the bottom plate is part of the shock absorber. Only thing is to get smaller tires, or smaller wheels.

spacers or different rims with more offset are the only way but then you might have to get flares

You got wheels with the wrong offset, if you're buying wheels for the AE92, you need to buy wheels with a 38mm offset.

You cant have a 38 offset with a wide 17". The reason it rubs is because the wheel is too tall.

There's quite a few guys running 17s with 205/40 series tires, you could probably get away with running 45 series tires with the right offset.

My old wheels were 15x7 with a 38mm offset, and they just cleared the wheel well and the strut by about a finger's worth of gap! my current wheels have about the same gap left, but these are 15x6.5.

SCT, what is the width of the wheels you bought? Please don't say 17x7.5 as this may also be the cause.

AE92

I'm not sure of the wheel's width. I got them from a guy with a Volkwagen Golf.

ren comming from a guy with 16x7 rims on his car and 205 45 tires, a 17 with a 45 sidewall wouldn't even bolt on. Check my rear suspension and tire clearance next time you see my car, you can't get your FINGER between the tire and spring mount.

Nice thing about the rear is you can put larger offset than the front and still have them covered by the stock flares.

You mean a lower offset right?... a larger offset would just push the rim into the strutmount.

I had 17x7's before....with 205/40/ZR17 nitto Neo-Gens...
The rear fit fine.. the front rubbed the innersidewall wayy too much -_-...

But.. it DID look nice =]

Yeah I just bought 18s and the back wheel without the tire rubs the back strut. Hopefully spacers will fix the problem.

I need to replace my shocks and struts anyway, so I will have to get my alignment redone after that.
