Just doing some research... If I were to take out all the shift and clutch cables and linkages from a manual AE92 sedan, would it hook up with a manual tranny that would've come out of an MR2 or Celica? When I do get my 4AGZE, I'm getting it with a 5-spd still bolted on with it that way I can swap both the tranny and engine. Most likely it'll come out of an MR2. So before I spend $, I'd like to know...
as far as i know the stock ae92 has a c-class c50 or c52 tranny the only difference is that the e52 usually pulled from a gze is heavier and has slightly different gearing. oh and about 70lbs. it's the same for mr2 and japanese ae92 levin because the transaxle is right infront of motor in both cars! great huh
so to answer your question yes the linkages should fit although some cable may need adjusting, like the throttle etc.
where are you doing this swap?
Im in Florida and i have a 5spd dx sedan too except i was plannin to put the gze into the sedan!
good luck
I'm up in Maryland. And a hot $800 away from getting a 4AGZE with the 5spd. It'll be awhile before it actually gets done... How do I know whether the tranny is a C50, C52, etc???

ok (runnin on memory) i just ordered the entire toyota bible on all usdm 91 corollas so i can verify all of this in a couple of days...
ALL USDM corollas are supposed to have one or the other but for the record i've only seen the C52 i don't think there is any difference.
I'm pretty sure ALL gze's came with the beefier e52 with bigger axles on both levins and mr2.
However i don't know about USDM spec gze's
pretty sure the ae101s use a e58 (i believe thats what it is). then theres always the fact of whether you get a lsd box or not. im just throwin this question out there, but won't you need to adapt fwd shift cables to the mr2 box since the linkages are from different sides?
The MR2 linkage is on the front side of the tranny, while the Corolla linkage is on the rear side. I read that you can swap linkage over to make the Mid engine tranny work on the FWD car, but from my recolection it involves some gearbox dissambly.

If the 4AGZE can bolt onto a Corolla's 5 spd and nothing blows at all, then screw the 5 spd from an MR2. Cuz I bought a 5 spd from a junkyard out of a '88 japanese Corolla 4dr with the 4AF several months ago. Which would bolt right into my car since I have an '88 japanese Corolla 4dr 4AF, just automatic. But since I want a 4AG-swap, I'm hoping I didn't waste my time (3 days) and $90 at the junkyard pulling a tranny that's not compatible with an engine that throws down almost twice as much hp than a 4AF.
i dont know how long a (im guessing c52) will last on a gze. its not really twice as much hp that you have to worry about, its the torque increase. 20V's uses a C series tranny, it came standard with that, and it has 160 hp, the gze has alot more torque then the 4ages and thats whats gonna eat up the gear boxes. why dont you just buy a engine and tranny package, its not that much more expensive and itll save you the headaches. make sure you get the E series driveshatfs as well.
All C series will work with any 4AGE and 4AFE, the C series should be able to last long enough providing that you're not doing burn outs and clutch drops at every stop light, best thing to do if you're using a C series transmission with a GZE is to get a heavy duty clutch.
Aaron (4AaronGE) has been running a C52 for a while with his GZE and he's had no problems.
