CAT replacement at 88k ???

Needing a state inspection in NC. Check engine light's on and the dealer's telling me it needs a new CAT. I can't stand their pricing, and I think that the CAT failure is somewhat their fault (too long of a story).

I'm not great, but I believe I can perform the replacement myself. Which CAT is the one to get, and is this something an average shade-tree can do?

Thanks.

P.S. The block had to be replaced in this car at about 69k. Not too happy with this car. It's not proving to be as trouble-free and long-running as I though a Toyota would be.

Exclamation

on my 1989 Coprolla SR5 my first factory cat converter lasted about 14 years. The second one lasted less than 2 years, now on my 3rd. I am pissed off the last one lasted less than 2 years. What a total fraud! And they get away with this crap! The auto shop tol dme the factory ones were buitl be good and expensive, the aftermarket Cats are not built as good. We are ripped off here in the USA on Smog parts, totally raped!

BTW they also communicated with the California Beaureau of Automitive repair and the Smog control nazis.

Had to do ours at 122K, which I thought didn't seem right, but got it for 185.
