88 corolla electrical

i have an 88 corolla wagon w/AC the start of my proplem was that some genious previos owner wired the radio straight to the battery. this caused a short the other night that melted the speedo needle clean off the stem. ok i have found the source of the short and disconnected it.
now the car starts and runs but nothing works on the accessory side. lights, horn, heater and coolant fans are out. i used a jumper on the relays on the battery post with no effect. i jumped the coolant fans at the relay in the panel on the fender and got a buzzing from the relay marked head and the fans to come on. itried a new relay there and no help.

any suggestions on what to check next? help thank you!
