Trans Removal

On an AE92 with 1.6L engine and 3 speed automatic transmission, can the trans be removed by pulling out the top, or do you have to drop the cradle, and drop it out of the bottom?

i think you can do both? what are u trying to do?? do you have a haynes book???

1. u need an engine crane for the top and remove the bolts from the engine mounts

2. for the bottom if u have some high ramps its should come out pretty easy

Dont forget to dissconnect everything

I have the manual. I know the manual recommends pulling it out the bottom, but it looks easier to me to pull it out the top if it will physically fit. I'm pulling the trans out of a car who's next stop is the junkyard, so it won't have to be pretty. I was just wondering if anyone ever tried to pull the trans out the top and if there were any problems

Does the Haynes manual say the AT can be removed by itself? The Toyota service manual only shows removing it and the engine together.

the only way its coming out of the top, is attached to the engine. look in the bay, it wont clear the mounting bracket.

it doesnt matter what tranny it is, AT or MT, the procedures basically the same, drop it down.
