Starting Problems

I went out today to start my 1984 ae86 and it wouldnt start it would turn over a little bit but ended up making a dieing sound and not starting...the lights and the other acessories were goin so i dont think its the battery or the alternator...im thinking its the starter...any feedback would be great...thanks

Troubleshooting steps...hope they help:
-With a multi or volt meter, attache lids to battery terminals...read voltage as someone else attempt to start it...if volts reading drops below 10voltsDC, you battery is bad!
-If the voltage stays above 10 volts and the starter "click" and do not turn, use a broom stick and hit the starter as someone attempt to crank it...if it starts, you may need a new starter OR battery cables going to the starter. Before you buy a new starter get it checked by Auto Zone or Advance.

just took it to autozone and they said that it was the alternator...its conducting electricity but isnt makin it back to the battery to charge it
