Carburetor rebuild for 1985 Corolla lift-back?

Hi!

I just bought a 1985 Corolla lift-back that is in need of a carburetor rebuild. It is a 1.6L automatic with a 2-barrel carburetor. I'm hoping my husband (poor guy!) can do the rebuild, but I can't seem to find any instructions/ diagrams online to assist him. The bugger seems a bit complicated.... Does anyone know of a good site that has this information? I've tried google, but keep getting company/auto parts as the results- no how-tos.

Thanks in advance for any replies!!

1985 Corolla would have a 4AC motor, try searching the web for 4AC carb rebuild and see what that brings up.

you can go to Napa auto parts, first call and see if they either have the carb kit in stock, or can order it..., inside the box comes a diagram of the parts.. nd instructions. Not sure if there is a diagram for your carb on the internet... was scarce info on the 1989 corolla SR5 carb on the internet... but it was probably similar but different.. the diagram is in extremley small print... which sux...

if you have never rebuilt a carb before,, can I suggest you not practice on this one...
not hard, but still a major pain in the ass... too many tips and details to help you.. in a short paragraph...

if you do go ahead... I wish you luck..

Gen5

Try just replacing the float and the idle mix screw and it should help alot---maybe not have to try a rebuild. If you do decide to rebuild, first get an official Toyota shop manual (yellow cover) for your specific model and year which will show in detail the procedure.

It better to just get a Weber 32/36 DGV and adaptor plate for it

Less problematic & better support out there for parts for it.
