AE86 maf on 20v with itb's

so, i just got my 20v s/t and its got the itb's (obviously) however, my concern is how to get the induction box off and run 4 open (well, 4 filters) an d use this setup with the maf. leaving it hanging would make the engine run like complete s*** correct? so if i want 4 open throttles, how do i fix that problem? thanks

your engine wouldnt run at all if the MAF was "hanging around"

20V silvertop doesnt use maf, its use afm (airflow meter). the car wouldnt run, as the name suggests the airflow meter reads how much air is goign into the engine, therefore your computer wouldnt know how much fuel to add.

to remove the afm and run open throttles you need to convert the engine to MAP sensored, either by converting to a ae111 ecu and harness (youll need a piggyback for this as well), or a standalone.

its not huge trouble to convert it, just money. much cheaper resolution would be a megasquirt if you have some time and experience.

you do get gains, you could expect close to 10 whp gain on a stock engine, and obviously more if you were planning more mods (ie, hotter cams).

you don't need a piggyback to run an AE111 ecu on a silvertop. I have a silvertop in my MR2 and have been running off of a blacktop ecu for a year now with no problems and there are a bunch of other mr2 owners that run the same setup. If you convert to an AE111 blacktop ecu you will need to change some of the wiring and get a map and ait(air intake temp) sensors.

I have never dynoed mine but there are plenty of people on the MR2 board that are running silvertop motor with blacktop ecu and no piggyback and none of them have any problems.

you wouldnt really have problems, im just saying the whole reason ive heard you need (read: want) a piggyback on teh conversion as it will f-up your a/f ratios. which is understandable, condisering the blacktop has 0.5 higher compression, more aggressive cams, etc.

Yes you are correct you will probably want one. What I am saying is you don't need one to run with a silvertop. The motor still runs great and strong without one. Like you said though the a/f probably isn't what it should be but for most people it is good enough.
