new here, looking into AE86 need help

ok so i'm new here. i've been looking into the toyota corolla AE86 as my first car.(hatchback style :p) so i've looked into a couple of things and i have some questions about this stuff.

1. first off, i wanna get an AE86, but convert the front end from a Sprinter to a Levin. where can i find conversion kits, how much do they cost, and how hard are they to install?

2. Also, i'm looking into getting the 20v engine. i wanna get a 4AGE silver top cuz i heard it's a good platform. i'm not sure if it's true, but if it is, how difficult is the swap? and i heard things such as these engines not passing smog or not passing visually? what do they mean by visually? i live in cali so i know all about smog.

any info/advice much appreciated.

A: You can get frontend on ebay, forums (club4ag, hachiroku.net, socal86.com, etc). Installation is pretty easy. For a sprinter frontend make sure you have the right brackets, pull out all the stock bumper and panels out and install, not too hard. For a Levin frontend it's another story you have more parts to buy (headlights, bumper brackets, headlight brackets, grill, fenders, hood bumper and lights). It requires more modification. A sprinter kit is gonna cost you anywhere from $800-1000 (OEM or aftermarket). For a Levin conversion is gonna cost you anywhere from $1500-2000.

My sprinter conversion:

Progress:

After:

2. A: Going from 16v to a 20v is a big step up. It requires wiring modification, firewall modification (bang the firewall or cut the firewall for distributor clearance). About smoging 20v motors never came w/ an EGR so you smog can be high. You can smog illegally if you have connections in your area. Those motors cost anywhere from 900-1200. Since your just starting, I suggest you start w/ a 16v and upgrade when you're familiar w/ your car.
