Problem with A/C '87 FX16

I've done a thorough search and could not find an answer specific to my problem.

My FX16 is daily driver (unmodified) that I've owned for 7 years.
Just turned 150k
I've owned it for 7 years and the A/C has always worked.

Last summer the A/C light began flashing at times and I simply turned it off, then back on... That usually took care of the problem.
Ran cold the rest of the drive.

A couple weeks ago I tried the A/C for the 1st time this year and the light came on but the compressor did not engage.
1st time it's done this.
I thought it may be related to my alternator, since it went out and blew a couple unrelated fuses along the way. (new alternator now installed)
I looked for the A/C circuit breaker in the passenger kick panel, but I don't know what it might look like or if that might be the problem anyway.

The fuse box next to the battery has what might be A/C relays, but I don't know if they have anything to do with the problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Derek

It sounds like an electrical problem / I incline into checking and testing all of the AC relays & fuses
