4ALC Engine struggling up hills - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

I have a 1986 CS-X Corolla Seca with the 4ALC engine, recently when its being driven up hills it seems to struggle quite a lot which it never used to.

Also, when this happens it gets to a point where the car feels as if it is stalling/jumping but if the accelerator is backed off it balances out.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem + if anyone has a diagram of the vaccuum hoses for this model as the carb has been off recently and this could be the problem. It would be great to get a post of a picture.

The car has 193,000KMs which i beleive is 119924 miles roughly.

Do you hear any pinging? Does the car feels like is running one 3 cylinders all the time? When you are going up hill and accelerate, do you see puffs of black smoke on your rear view mirror? If so, that's your problem / you might be running a bit rich / try cleaning your carb, it might help
