Japan 1987 corolla fx-16 overheating problem

Hey guys,

I have a 1987 Corolla fx-16 stock with 4age engine that I've owned for a couple years now that's been overheating after driving for a while for the past few months. When i stop the car i notice smoke coming up from under the hood. But the engine runs very strong so i don't think i have a blown head gasket. The radiator fan also works fine. I check the radiator water level constantly to make sure it's not low but it keeps happening every time i drive it for as little as 5 miles. Anybody could tell me what the problem could be?

Thanks,

Raf.

The potential causes are numerous such as: low coolant level, internally clogged radiator core tubes, stuck shut thermostat. overadvanced or retarded ignition tiiming, ANY kind of engine or exhaust system mod.

Your head gasket could soon bust because you have been repeatedly overheating the engine instead of calling a tow truck

Yeah, if it's overheating that fast, I lean towards BHG. Double check your Thermostat / water pump (if is leaking Anti-Freeze when parked)

Ive got a 4ALC in an 86. Had a similar problem, couldnt see much wrong - it turned out to be the vacuum switch (where all ur vacuum lines go to). If this switch is ruined the fuel mix will be ruined and the engine will run hotter than it needs.

The other stuff to check has all ready been mentioned.
-Did you check the ignition timing? Radiator and those things?
