where to buy struts for AE82

well i ordered KYB GR2 strut assemblies from www..com. Unfortunately, they sent the wrong struts and now I can't seem to find the correct ones on their website. Does anyone know another website that I can buy the assembly(NOT the insert), for my '87 FX16 GTS? If anyone knows any other struts from different compaines for this car and where to buy, please let me know.

thanks!!

If you have an FX16 GTS then your car did come with cartridges, only the FX came with regular struts, so unless your car came with the 4AC and NOT the 4AGE then you have an FX16/GTS

How do you know you don't have the cartridges? have you tried taking them out?? I think you may have ordered the wrong ones from that site, there's quite a few choices on their site, it looks like their choices are too broad and cover too many cars for my liking, if you look at the KYB site, their numbers don't compare at all to that site's.

KYB site's catalog shows the part numbers for the cartridges for the FX16 and FX16 GTS as

Fronts: 365041
Rears: 232030

The FX part numbers are

RF: 234024
LF: 234025
RR: 234028
LR: 234029

i know i can replace just the catridges, but i'd much rather replace the entire piece. i do have the FX16 GTS with the 4AGE motor.

after looking at the KYB catalog, it seems like the rear struts they sent will fit according to their part numbers. even tho the box says "'93-'06 Rear struts", the part numbers printed on the struts say "KY232028" and "KY232029" which matches the part numbers in the catalog for the FX.

i'll try to install those tomorrow, if they work ill just send back the fronts. i THINK i found the correct front ones on using the part numbers from KYB.

front right: KY234024

front left: KY234025

Digging up an old thread for a little clarification.
I am running into this same problem with my 87 FX16-GTS front struts.

Do I understand it correctly that the only way to change out the front struts is to get the cartridges? I tried getting some new strut assemblies from the local parts store and they were correct with the exception of the spring perches. My old struts have a spring perch diameter of 6.5" and these are 6". I ASSume what I purchased was the standard FX front strut.

Is changing out the cartridge itself the best way to go?
Thanks,

Change the cartridge. It's not very hard. You just have to figure out a way to undo the large threaded flange. I used a giant Chanel lock plier and clamped the strut casing in a vise. Clamp it so you don't damage the body.
And you can find adjustable cartridges to fit in there, I'm running Koni "yellow" adjustables. The rears were a challenge if you want something adjustable.

I like them, definitely a way better match with the TRD springs than the KYB and SensaTracs I was running before.

Do you have the TRD Spring PN# for the FX16's? Do you know a place that will still have it available?

AFAIK those springs are long discontinued. I might be able to find part #, I have a scan of an old TRD catalog somewhere. I'm not even absolutely sure my springs are TRDs, but the colors seem to match. I have no idea where you could find these anymore. Oh, do a google search on FX TRD CATALOG and you should find it right away. You can see other goodies that you can't get anymore too.

The Intrax's that came on one of my FX's were way too soft and sagged out, I hated them. Had "slammed" look, unfortunately it slammed the ground all the time and at auto-x performed like a wet freaked out noodle as it ran on the bump stops.

I dont drive mine daily...It's been sitting in the garage for 10 years with a car cover. I just had the new clutch put in last week. I did notice the front was slamed..that's why I'm looking for new springs.
