Depends on what you mean by "overheating". The range for normal temp on the temp gauge is wide, so do you mean that is is close to boiling over ?

My '86 AE82L has ALWAYS run hotter with the A/C running but much less so after I did the following---replaced the temp control switch (turns on the fans) because it wears out and gets slower to respond to the heat, run 65% distilled water/35% long-life coolant, installed coolant-hose shunt as described in my other post, run 91 (mid-grade) octane during hot weather, set A/C switch to ECON rather than to MAX.

Hope this helps.

AE86

there's several possiblilities:
blown head gasket:
-is your engine running sluggish
-u see white smoke
Resolution:
-check all your fluids
-check for leaks
-do a compression test

bad temp sensor(does your temp move up and down/doesn't stay constant):
-loose wire
-bad plug
Resolution:
-find the wire and check the condition
